Material Density Reference

Part weight is calculated from material volume and density. The values below are typical reference densities for common CNC machining materials. Exact density can vary slightly by alloy, grade and supplier.

How is metal weight calculated?

First calculate the volume of the raw material shape, then multiply the volume by the material density. The calculator performs these calculations automatically.

How accurate is the calculated weight?

The result is an estimate based on nominal dimensions and typical material density. Actual weight can vary slightly depending on alloy composition, stock tolerance and supplier data.

Can I calculate engineering plastic weight?

Yes. The calculator includes common CNC plastics such as POM, PEEK, PTFE, PMMA and nylon in addition to metal materials.

Does this calculate finished CNC part weight?

It calculates the weight of the selected basic geometry. A finished CNC part with pockets, holes, slots or other removed material will normally weigh less than the original stock.

Can I use my own material density?

Yes. Select Custom Density and enter the material density in g/cm³ if your specific alloy or plastic is not included in the list.
